A space to feel heard and understood

Person-centred counselling in Brighton & Hove and online

How I work

A night sky filled with stars above a silhouette of a mountain and a body of water reflecting the sky.

My training is in the person-centred approach developed by Carl Rogers. It’s based on the belief that meaningful change is more likely to happen when we feel accepted and understood, rather than analysed or directed. For this reason, the emphasis in person-centred counselling is on understanding your experience more fully.

This isn’t about nodding and agreeing with everything you say. At times, gentle challenge may be part of our work, always offered with care and respect. But my focus is on listening attentively and non-judgementally to whatever thoughts or feelings you choose to bring and, in doing so, supporting you to reconnect with your personal sense of self and direction. From here, many people find they begin to see their situation differently, allowing them to move forward in ways that feel authentic and lasting.

“When I am listened to and when I am understood, I am able to perceive my world in a new way and go on” Carl Rogers‍ ‍

Working Together: Online or in Person

I offer counselling both in dedicated therapy spaces in Brighton & Hove as well as online.

For some people, coming into a separate space and meeting in person feels important and preferable. Others find they’re able to relax and be themselves more when meeting online from the comfort of their own homes.

For some, there may not feel like much choice, for example, if getting to in-person sessions is difficult/impossible, or if an online meeting isn’t accessible.

Online sessions can also make it possible to work together if you’re living/working abroad and looking for an English-speaking counsellor.

There’s no right or wrong way to work together. What matters is finding a way of working that feels comfortable to you. We can have a chat about what suits you best.
